George Blackie Sticks (1843 - 1936). Landscape painter in oil and watercolour. Son of James Sticks. The most distinguished member of the Sticks family of artists. Born in Newcastle. He had early artistic training as a designer in stained glass manufactory of William Wailes. He was placed under tuition of William Bell Scott at the Government School of Art at Newcastle. After leaving this job he went onto become a full time artist. He enjoyed sketching around Scotland and the Lake District. He exhibited his work reguarly at Berwick Club and Arts Association exhibitions. Also at the Royal Scottish Academy and the Royal Academy (2). He is represented at the Laing Art Gallery, Newcastle and the Shipley Art Gallery, Gateshead.
