Hemy - Charles Napier Hemy (1841 - 1917)

Charles Hemy - Charles Napier Hemy (1841 - 1917). Marine, coastal and landscape painter. He used oils and watercolours. Born in Newcastle, England. He attended the Grammar School and took lessons at the Newcastle School of Art and Antwerp. He spent sometime Australia before returning to England to become a priest. He spent sometime in a monastery in Lyon, France. His health then became too precarious for his calling and then he left to become a full time artist. He exhibited at the Royal Academy 1910, Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours 1884, Royal Institute of Oil Painters 1885, an Associate member of the Royal Society of Painters of Watercolour 1890, the Royal Watercolour Society 1897.
