Boyce - William Boyce - William Thomas Nichol Boyce (1857-1911)
William Boyce - William Thomas Nichol Boyce (1857-1911). Marine and landscape painter in oil and watercolour. Originally from Norfolk he moved to South Shields in 1872. He became apprentice joiner and later worked in a draper shop before becoming a full time artist. He worked far more often in watercolour and there are more examples of watercolour work than oil. Boyce exhibited at the South Shields Art Club, The Berwick Art Club, Newcastle and from 1905 until his death at South Sheilds the Artists of Northern Counties exhibitions at the Laing Art Gallery, Newcastle. Three pieces of his work where included in the "1300th Festival - 19th Century Artists exhibition at the Sunderland Art Gallery in 1974. His sons were all artistically gifted; Albert Ernest Boyce, Herbert Walter Boyce and Norman Septimus Boyce.
