Richardson George 1808-1840

George Richardson (1808-1840)

Richardson was born at Newcastle upon Tyne, the eldest son of Thomas Miles Richardson senior.
Marshall Hall describes that, ‘by the age of fourteen [he] was advertising his services as ‘historical and landscape painter’ in a local directory. By the age of eighteen he was also offering ‘Drawing Classes for Figure, Landscape and Animal Painting.’' He later opened an Academy on Blackett Street, Newcastle in partnership with his brother and fellow artist Thomas Miles Richardson junior.
George exhibited works at the Northern Academy, the Carlisle Academy and at the British Institution. He showed six works at the latter between 1828 and 1833.
