Claire - Jean Claire - Jean Auguste Claire (Born 1881)

Jean Claire - Jean Auguste Claire (Born 1881) was born on 18th November 1881 in Paris, where he lived and did most of his work. Predominantly, a landscape artist who would travel with his sketch book, although his finished pieces were mainly in oil. In 1935, he was awarded a gold medal at the Salon of French Artists in Paris and took part in many subsequent exhibitions. It was in Paris that he was best known and he immersed himself very much in its artistic culture and continued to exhibit there throughout his life. He was made Hors Consourse which accredited him as a first class artist. He also lived in Alencon, Normandy where he painted many landscapes. Prior to painting he was a textile designer, and during the 1st war won the Legion of Honour. He has had various paintings auctioned in Switzerland and throughout Europe. He has had works shown in the Museums of Rouen and Le Harve, as well as being represented in numerous private collections.
