Harper - Thomas Harper (1820 - c.1889)
Thomas Harper (1820 - c.1889). Landscape painter in watercolour and a drawing master. Harper was born at Eighton Banks, near Gateshead, but at an early age he moved to Newcastle where he became a pupil of Thomas Miles Richardson Senior. At the age of sixteen he exhibited two landscapes at the Newcastle Society of Artists. From 1841 he is believed to have worked in London, where in 1840 he showed his work at the Royal Academy and later at The Suffolk Street Gallery. Represented at the Laing A.G. Newcastle; North Tyneside Public Libraries; Shipley A.G. Gateshead.
