Robson Telford 1888-1937

ROBERT THOMPSON  LAMBERT (1888 to 1937)

Born in North Shields, seventh child of James Alexander Lambert who was a cabinet maker and picture framer .

Robert Thompson Lambert lived at 58 Tyne Street, then 4 Tynemouth Road, North Shields and latterly at 31 Central Ave North Shields.  He worked as a painter under his own name but also under the names,Thomas/Telford Robson/Telford Lambert and Thompson Lambert.  He had a shop at 58 Tyne Street (Picture Framer and Gilder), then Linskill Street and later Camden Street.  He inherited the business from his father.  He exhibited at Laing Art Gallery, Newcastle. Latterly he was organist and choirmaster at St Oswalds Mission

He was a great friend of Victor Rainbird and indeed some of his work closely resembles the work of Rainbird.  The names Telford and Robson appear to stem from family names in earlier generations but no-one seems to know why he chose to use the different names to sign his work.
