Fergie - William Fergie (1893 - 1971)

William Fergie (1893 - 1971). Born at Berwick upon Tweed, he became a self taught artist, painting in his spare time and contributing illustrations to a local newspaper. His work as a landscape painter in watercolour became so well known that on his retirement from the Tyneside shipyard as a timekeeper, he became a successful professional artist. He was an admirer of fellow townsman Frank Wood (1862-1953) and exhibited his work at The Artists of the Northern Counties Exhibitions at Newcastle's Laing Art Gallery for a number of years.
