Herbert - Alfred Herbert fl 1843 - 1860 . Herbert was a seascape watercolour painter who lived in Southend. His early experience as a Thames Tugboatman gave him knowledge of coastal shipping at first hand. He exhibited 43 works in London at the Royal Academy. Also at the Suffolk Street Gallery, and The British Institution. His style was not dissimilar to William Callow, he was much admired for his skills in depicting shipping moving through water.
