David Bates (1840 - 1921). A landscape painter in oil and watercolour who lived in Worcester, in Birmingham from 1884 to 1899 and in Malvern. He exhibited in Birmingham from 1968 to 1907, at the Royal Academy and elsewhere in London from 1872. He painted mostly in the Midlands, but also at times in both Egypt and Switzerland. He specialised in scenes, notably winter scenes, of cattle and farm workers.
