Clara Montalba A.R.W.S. R.W.S. (1842 - 1929). Landscape and marine painter who was born in Cheltenham. Studied under Eugene Isabey in Paris for four years. Lived in London 1880 and 1897: Brussels 1921; and Venice 1894, 1901 and from 1923 to 1929 where she died. Exhibited her work at The Royal Academy(11); Royal Water Colour Society (196); Royal Scottish Academy; Agnew & Sons Gallery; Royal Society of Artists, Birmingham; Fine Art Society; Grosvenor Gallery; Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts; Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool; Royal Society of British Artists; Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Water Colours; and the Society of Women Artists.
