Wood - Robert Wood (1852 - 1899)

Robert Wood (1852 - 1899). Landscape painter in oil and watercolour. Born in Woodburn in Redesdale. Son of a farmer. Inspired to paint after seeing watercolours by Thomas Miles Richardson Snr. Some two to three years later he purchased a picture frame and guilding business in Newcastle upon Tyne. He made such a success of it that he was able to devote much of his time to painting. He was a regular exhibitor at Newcastle's Bewick Club. He exhibited outside Northumbria at the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour; The Royal Scottish Academy and Various London and privincial galleries.
