Mahon - Gary Mahon

Gary Mahon. The subject matter of many of his artworks are the rugged landscapes of the West Coast of Scotland including the villages, beaches and hills. His work tends to focus on the objects that give a place character: rundown iron roofed sheds; gates hanging off rusty hinges and washing line poles set at peculiar angles, reminding us of the presence of man and the passing of time. The use of colour and contrast of light form the essence of his work. Mahon has won awards such as Aberdeen Artists Exhibition winner (1995), An Tuireann Skye and Lochalsh Exhibition winner (Spring 2003) He has also exhibited at An Tuireann Arts Centre Craft Gallery Exhibition 2003/04, Sabhal M√≤r Ostaig 2004,Gallery An Talla Dearg June 2004, Aberdeen Artists Exhibition 1995, Grays Student Sketch Club Exhibition 1995, Grays School of Art Degree Show 1995, RSA Student Exhibition 1995, John Wood Group Exhibition 1993/1995, Wild Boar Student Exhibition 1993, Castle Gallery Inverness 2004, The Byre Theatre St Andrews August 2004.
